Ash + Jo
Ok, this spiel comes from a bit of a selfish place…initially. Almost ten years ago I paid money, I lined up, I pushed my way to the front, I jumped and screamed and sang my guts out at many a Sundance Kids gig! I also bought merchandise and lined up for autographs…if you’d have told me that however long later I’d be in a room with this same band jamming while they got suited up for a wedding I wouldn’t have believed you. And could I have ever been prepared for the exceptional love and epic event I was about to experience….nup!
I was pretty chuffed to be asked to document the wedding of one and only front man Ash Gale! So I was already giddy for this day, but nothing could have prepared me for the absolute emotion and surreality of the entire thing! Ash chose the best girl to marry; sweet, completely lovely, kind natured, deeply in love and drop dead gorgeous I should also mention! She also made her own wedding gown, that was just one of the details that blew us away. Ash is cool too.
First things first; the ceremony. Just a simple church wedding that was heartfelt and personal and bursting with happiness. Ash composed the music Jo walked down the aisle to and I was done at that point. Such a demonstration of utter love only made harder to handle by actually hearing it and seeing the bridal procession at the same time while trying to maintain my composure behind the camera. Let me tell you, it only got better from there.
As the reception venue was aptly titled, due to being an enormous private property owned by…the Hampton’s, good friends of the couple it would seem…VERY good friends! Because they let these guys throw the party of the century at their place. Jo tells me this was organised two days after they were engaged…can’t say Ash isn’t a man with a plan!
Again, just a simple marquee wedding of long tables and hanging greenery…except in an enormous pavilion; dinner and divine details down one end, a full, proper stage set up down the other. Ready in wait for the funnest night of my…I mean their lives!
Jo obviously got sick and tired of looking stunning in her home-made gown so she slipped into a bit of a party dress, didn’t do the job, because she looked just as amazing. A rockstar reception entrance and announcing they had penned a hand written note to each and every guest for them to read were yet more moments that astounded. Closely followed by Ash performing ‘I’ll Be There’ for the father-daighter dance…again, killing me.
The Sundance Kids.
So not only did the wedding in general feature one of the best wedding bands going round who had everyone tearing up the dance floor to the best punk tunes and scream along tracks, half way in, these boys took the stage for a nice little Sundance Kids reunion. This was the moment where I had to choose very hard between doing my job and going crazy, I like to think I did a good combo of both. But seriously, they are SUCH an amazing band!! I nearly died, surprise surprise. But possibly even better than the onstage situation was the off stage one; every single guest singing, clapping, cheering and dancing as well as Jo (to whom most of the songs were dedicated), absolutely doting on her new husband up on stage and going nuts at the same time. I want to relive this over and over again…forgive me for sounding obsessed but I felt pretty spesh not having had to push my way to the front this time 😉
The Gales Everybody.
A rock star wedding hashtag for a rockstar couple, I mean who even are these people who hired us?! I want them to know my depth of appreciation for having us and for giving me one of my favourite days I have experienced to document. It made me fall in love with this job all over again and made clear what weddings should be about…100% you!
I only hope I did them, their story and what went down at The Hampton’s, justice.
